The FX17 is built with an innovative per-side design featuring one dynamic driver, four custom balanced armature (BA) drivers, and eight high-performance electrostatic (EST) drivers. A meticulously tuned five-way crossover evenly distributes energy among all drivers, ensuring each component operates at its optimal state for a grander soundstage and natural, lifelike audio reproduction.
Electrostatic Driver Innovation
Eight carefully implemented electrostatic drivers per side deliver an exceptionally airy high-frequency extension—easily reaching up to 50kHz. Although their inherent sensitivity is only 99dB/mW (compared to the typical 110dB/mW of BA and dynamic drivers), the FX17’s design employs multiple electrostatic units to increase sound pressure levels. This strategic approach overcomes the natural “masking effect” (the ear’s reduced sensitivity to high-frequency sounds in the presence of powerful low frequencies), ensuring that the high and ultra-high frequencies are not only audible but also richly detailed.
Custom Balanced Armature Excellence
The FX17 features four custom Knowles BA drivers that are innovatively split into composite units—each composed of a dedicated mid-frequency and a mid-high frequency section. This “Midrange Enhanced Balanced Armature Unit,” developed in close collaboration with Knowles, incorporates acoustic vents within the ear cavity to boost sound energy reserves. The result is denser mids and sumptuous, transparent vocal reproduction that places the listener right in the heart of the performance.
High-Fidelity Dynamic Driver Performance
At its core, the FX17 utilizes a dynamic driver with a lithium-magnesium alloy diaphragm—a material that is both lightweight and exceptionally rigid. With a density of just 1.6g/cm³, this diaphragm demonstrates high internal damping, minimizing intrinsic resonances and keeping distortion below 0.2%. The result is pristine sound reproduction even at rapid vibration speeds, ensuring unmatched clarity and dynamic precision.
Patented S.Turbo Acoustic Design
Inspired by high-performance turbo designs in supercars, the FX17’s patented S.Turbo acoustic structure channels sound through a uniquely shaped pathway to dramatically enhance bass output. This design not only boosts deep, robust low frequencies but also effectively filters out superfluous mid and high-frequency signals from the dynamic driver, facilitating smooth and powerful transitions across the audio spectrum.
Optimized Acoustic Architecture
The FX17’s resonant back cavity has been refined with precision-engineered vents (diameter: 0.2mm) that control airflow and achieve an ideal balance between the dynamic driver’s front and back cavities. This advanced design enhances the driver’s overall performance—the dynamic “O factor,” amplitude, low-frequency extension, and mid-frequency clarity—bringing a balanced and immersive listening experience.
Dual-System Five-Way Crossover Precision
Taking the performance a step further, the FX17 integrates an electronic and physical dual-system five-way crossover. This design guarantees smooth frequency responses, a flat impedance curve, and balanced energy distribution, even at varying volume levels. Notably, unlike earlier models with toggle functionality for electrostatic drivers, the FX17 increases the number of these drivers to reduce power requirements while ensuring they are a critical component in handling wide-ranging high frequencies.
Ergonomic Nozzle and Fit Enhancements
Extensive user feedback and scientific studies have led to a precise 10° adjustment of the sound nozzle relative to the ear canal, ensuring that the drivers align perfectly for enhanced comfort and stability. A reengineered 3D-shaped back cavity features a 1.4mm thick ear-conforming filling that secures the in-ear monitors (IEMs) more naturally, while a reduced thickness in the folded-screen area minimizes pressure on the ear, resulting in a truly comfortable and secure fit.
Premium Mixed Cable Construction
The FX17’s cable is engineered using a synergistic blend of gold, silver, and copper. Each element is forged at temperatures exceeding 1000°C and undergoes secondary refining to form pure crystalline monocrystals. This process minimizes impurities and transmission loss, allowing the cable to harness the unique acoustic properties of each metal for a significantly enhanced overall sound quality.
